Cape Town Station 2010

CLIENT: Intersite
VALUE: R480 million
ROLE: Principal Agent and Project Managers

The multimillion rand refurbishment of the Cape Town Station 2010 redevelopment project has been spurred on by the 2010 FIFA World Cup. This is the first major refurbishment that the station has seen in the last 50 years and is part of an interim development plan towards a long-term vision of the redevelopment of Cape Town Station.

The initial phase of the project includes upgrading of the railway station and the long distance bus terminal as well as improved public and vehicular access to taxi facilities.

Review of operations for 2010 included:

  • Security, personnel and access maintenance.
  • Rationalisation to ensure a commercial and retail footprint.
  • Modernisation to create an attractive commercial and retail space.

The station also needs to act as a 24/7 destination with good food and beverage facilities and provide facilities and structure for informal traders to become formalised. Additional, planned facilities include a transport museum, small business outlets and medical services.

Not only did Target Projects act as Principal Agent and Project Managers, we also assisted our client with business integration and changed their structure to better manage business facilities and create a workable and profitable environment.
